The cultivation of saffron was born from several of my passions:
-
Passion for history: bringing a lost culture up to date. Indeed, until the 19th century, saffron was one of the most cultivated spices in France.
- Passion for cooking: saffron is a multifaceted spice that will enhance your savory or sweet dishes, from the most basic dish to the most daring recipes.
- Passion for working the land: producing a flower and extracting one of the most beautiful spices! Born of farming parents, the return to the land was obvious ...
We have been cultivating our saffron since 2009, a hundred bulbs planted then a thousand then thousands, in order to test recipes and offer you quality products on this site. Today, nearly 1ha, which makes "Le Safran - L'Or Rouge des Ardennes", one of the largest saffron fields in Champagne-Ardenne.
Our safranières are located on two different plots, slightly sloping and ideally facing south-east. One is an old pasture and the second, a plot formerly cultivated with peas, legumes, rich in nitrogen.
On one of the plots, we created our saffron nursery. Why a nursery? In order to guarantee you healthy bulbs! Taking into account the significant investment represented by the plantation of a saffron plant, caution is in order. In addition, bulbs acclimatize to the soil and climate in which they are grown. Planting quality bulbs is a guarantee of success. That is why we advise you to buy healthy and acclimatized French bulbs.
